When not to wax (Contraindications)
Certain medical conditions and medications are prohibitive to waxing and certain facial treatments. Active herpes outbreaks on the mouth or genitals cannot be waxed. Sunburn should not be waxed or treated with exfoliating products. Clients using prescription retinols, accutane, blood thinners, steroids, or currently under treatment for cancer should not receive waxing services. A client should always check with their physician or call The Good Wax ahead of time if they are concerned they might be at risk for waxing sensitivity or otherwise be in conflict of a treatment. If you're in the clear, fill out the consent form before your appointment
Why wax?
The Good Wax uses HARD WAX for all intimate waxes and facial waxing. Hard wax causes less discomfort and irritation during and after the wax service and is far superior to other waxes available.
Waxing is an inexpensive, relatively painless, and effective method for total temporary hair removal, which overtime lessens the amount of hair growth. It can lessen ingrown hairs and eliminate razor rash or bumps.
Newer hair removal techniques like laser hair removal are expensive and painful and unfortunately only work for some individuals. Any person with hair can be waxed (less contraindications listed above) and it is proven that over time less hair will grow back.

Hair Length and timing:
To achieve the most thorough wax, you should wait at least three weeks after your last shave for hairs to be of optimal length for waxing.
Hair will grow back much more quickly after it has been shaved or removed by a chemical depilatory, as the hair has only been cut at the skin. A client will wait much longer between waxings, as the entire hair has been removed from the root and the hair follicle must completely regenerate.
Women should not get waxed the week prior to their menstrual period as bloating and sensitivity tend to be greatest at this time.

Prepping your skin
Giving your skin a good exfoliation the day before a wax helps ensure that every hair is fully exposed, optimizing your waxing experience. Using a dry brush or “scrub” are great ways to achieve this. The Good Wax can recommend an excellent product for this purpose.
If you have a low pain threshold, take your preferred over the counter pain reliever/anti-inflammatory (per the package instructions) 30-60 minutes before your appointment. This will help take the edge off and alleviate any post wax inflammation.

What to expect after your wax
Every client reacts differently to waxing, as does every body part. You can expect that any redness or inflammation can be completely cleared up within 24 hours of your appointment, but often as quickly as 20 minutes.
Sun exposure should be avoided immediately after a wax and SPF should be applied regularly to avoid sunburn. Excess heat and sweating should also be avoided immediately after a wax, unless you have been able to take a shower. By rinsing in a luke warm shower, you can reset the shocked follicle, and avoid any further irritation.
Regular care and exfoliation of the waxed skin and the use of recommended product from The Good Wax can help minimize occurrence of ingrown hairs.
If you have taken the time and money to groom yourself, you should care for it after a professional treatment. Using the highest quality products, even on your bikini area is going to make the results from a wax last longer, and improve the tone and texture of your skin.
